An Adoptive Dad Shares His Story

Dear Fellow Parent(s),
Our son fell into the despair of anxiety, depression and sought out the use of marijuana to help him cope. However, his use of marijuana became excessive which led to deeper anxiety , depression and new, risky behaviors that were seemingly uncontrollable. We were fortunate to find InBalance Ranch Academy where he has been for the past several months. Incredibly dedicated and resourceful personnel at InBalance Ranch put us in touch with Other Parents Like Me (OPLM). As a Father, I was at my wits end, blaming myself at some level for what had happened to my son. I felt alone in my struggle until I started attending several OPLM meetings. There was a meeting nearly everyday of the week which gave me the opportunity to meet, talk and lean on other parents who knew exactly how I was feeling and what my family and son were going through. In fact, my son is adopted which brings with it additional complicating factors. OPLM has meetings and seminars geared toward adoptive parents too! I don’t know where my own mental health would be today without this incredible support system. OPLM is a life saving organization as far as I am concerned.
